About the Event
Welcome to my 'My Rainbow Kitchen' Easter Holiday Cookery Classes.
For those that don’t know me already, my name is Sayjel Patel and I am a qualified chef and dietitian. I have been running children's cookery classes for the past 10 years. The aim of my club is to encourage your child to learn about ‘good food' and to explore new flavours in an educational and fun way. We informally discuss aspects of nutrition, food science, seasonality and where ingredients originate from. Each recipe will be utilising 1 or more cooking skills.
In my one and only May Half Term Class, we will be going to Japan for our cuisine inspiration! The children will learn about Japanese Flavours and common ingredients and dishes.
For the Pork & Napa Cabbage Gyoza, the children will prepare their pork filling with addition shredded cabbage and spring onion then carefully fill their gyoza and seal. They will steam the gyoza in a bamboo tiered steamed basket and finally pan fry to brown and crisp.
I addition, I will to demonstrate how to make Onigiri (which is like a Triangular or Circular Arancini either unfilled or filled) moulded within a Onigiri press or rolled by hand. Onigiri is a good way to utilise left-over sushi rice when making sushi and can be seasoned with nori seaweed flakes and/or chilli flakes. The exterior can be left plain or coated in sesame seeds then lightly pan-fried.
To serve we will make a sweet n sour Soy Dipping Sauce.
Finally we will then our Japanese inspired Mini Eclairs. The children will make their choux pastry to pipe into mini eclairs and finally bake. They will then make a creme chantilly which can either be left plain or flavoured with matcha, lime or yuzu. For the topping, they will prepare a choice of Japanese inspired Glazes e.g. matcha, lime, yuzu, white or dark chocolate.
For the final decoration there will be a choice of toasted sesame seeds, edible flowers, chocolate sprinkles or freeze dried fruit.
This is a slightly more technical class and will be sure to challenge you childs culinary skills but will also be a lot of fun!
I have allowed an extra half hour to the usual 3.5 hours.
Apoligies for announcing this so late and some of you may have clubs alrerady booked if you know that you child is free, there is an early bird discount of £5 if booked before 24th May (USE CODE: EARLY BIRD).
The children will take home their prepared dishes in food grade packaging so they can enjoy at home and share with their families. I will provide a snack and water. Please ensure your children have an adequate lunch though before attending the class
For my holiday clubs, I can offer a small sibling discount so if interested please contact me for the discount code.
This class is suitable for children aged 9-16years old.
Please note, if you would like to form your own group maybe with your child/children and their friends, please do contact me as I have a another possible half term date available for private group bookings. If there are 6 children in total, the price cost per child works out similar to the Holiday Clubs and can be tailored to your children's needs.
Please do not send your child if they or any other household member are experiencing covid related or flu symptoms.
