About the Event

Welcome to My Rainbow Kitchen. Due to the popularity of the Monday class, I am happy to announce another new bite size Kids Cook Club each Saturday (during term time) focusing on key culinary skills and making some yummy food in the process!

Each week I will have a few spaces allocated for individual bookings. This Saturday 9th September we will be focusing on Cake Making (specifically a low fat sponge) for our Swiss Roll or Roulade and Preserving for our Homemade Berry Jam.

We will begin by making a light and airy Chiffon Sponge. We will also make a simple Mixed Berry Jam or Individual Berry Jam (ie Strawberry or Raspberry), depending on what berries at their peak seasonally. Additionally we will make a Creme Chantilly. Once baked and cooled we will be filling our Sponge Roll with Homemade Jam and Creme Chantilly. This will be rolled carefully (as it is a Swiss Roll!) and will be packaged to take home for a lovely Summer sweet treat.

A bit more Information about my classes:

The aim of my bite size classes is to encourage your child to learn about ‘good’ food and to explore new flavours in an educational and fun way. We informally discuss aspects of nutrition, food science, seasonality and where ingredients originate from. Each recipe will be utilising 1 or more keys cooking skill.

We aim to cover different cuisines from around the world as well as the British Classics. Dishes will either be savoury to serve as a main course or sweet to serve as dessert. Usually in addition, an accompaniment or sauce will be made to complement the dish.

Recipes will be decided on a seasonal basis (depending on weather and local seasonal produce). When completing the registration form please do give all information on your children's dietary habits, intolerances, food likes & dislikes so that the recipes can be adapted to the group.

Classes will focus on special themes according to time of year or a celebration e.g. Halloween, Christmas.

Each class, kids will cook in pairs or as teams and will whip up their very own tasty dish to take home. I will begin the classes with a short demonstration displaying what will be cooked during the class, followed by hands-on cooking for the participants to put their newly found culinary skills to the test.

Guidance and support will be offered throughout I will ensure all kids get their hands dirty, after all what better way is to learnFor ages: 9 - 13 years old!

These classes will be useful for those looking to complete their skill section for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze or Silver.
